06 Mar Why Procrastination Hurts You
There are many reasons why we procrastinate on our taxes. For some, we know that it will be a lot of work. If you haven’t planned, there can be a lot of documentation to gather and some time spent putting together all of your forms. It could be that you are expecting to have to pay your taxes and you want to avoid that. We get it. Taxes are not usually on people’s lists of favorite things. But did you know that procrastination has more significant implications than just putting off a task? It’s true; it can affect your mental and physical health.
When you are procrastinating your body responds because you are in a high-stress situation. Your amygdala tells your hypothalamus that there is a threat and that it needs to ramp up your nervous system and your endocrine system. If you often procrastinate your amygdala can keep your body on a constant high alert.
The problem is, your body doesn’t know if it is responding to a lion attacking you or some other stressful situation. Your hormones are on high alert, and their responses cause your body to hoard water and to build your blood pressure. It also causes your body to shut down all nonessential operations. Which if you were in a real fight or flight situation would be fine. But if it’s just a Tuesday, its a problem. But when your body has these hormones always on hand, your body responds less effectively to them each time. So if you are in a real emergency, you are in trouble.
All this to say, please don’t procrastinate on your taxes. We will help you! We would be more than happy to take all the burden and help you get your refund check sooner rather than later. Give us a call, and we hope to see you soon!
